Acupressure for behavioural problems
One of the philosophies of Chinese Medicine is the belief that there need not be a separate field of medicine for contending
with psychological disorders. Rather the mind and the body work in unison. An appropriate treatment for the body
is also an appropriate treatment for the mind as well.

Feline Inappropriate Urination and other behavioural problems.
This is a serious issue with some cat owners and is one of the top reasons unfortunately for euthanasia.
The following are some suggestions to help owners and felines get along! 1. Clean litter boxes daily. 2.
Keep litter boxes out of noisy areas. 3. One litter box per cat 4. Change up the litter types ie: clay, clumping,
pine/alfalfa-pellets etc. 5. Do not use litter box liners. 6. Uncover covered litter boxes, but not if cat is seeking
hidden areas to urinate. 7. Move food bowls and litter box to areas where cat is urinating. When cat starts using
box, move it back to it's normal area. 8. Cover defined areas that cat is urinating on with foil, plastic, to give an
undesirable substrate. 9. Separate cats in a multi-cat household with gates or crates when not bing monitored.
Cover outside windows, only re-introduce if behaviour gets better. 10. Treat soiled area's with odour removers
and citrus type sprays, most cats dislike citrus smells. 11. Use "Feliway" (pheromone product sold at vet clinics)to
decrease territorial pressure. 12. Confine offender in a small space with only food and water and litter box, cat
won't want to mess near food. 13. Give treats when cat uses litter box. 14. Use a squirt gun ONLY for punishment.
DO NOT let cat associate owner with punishment.

Compulsive Disorders ( tail chasing, fly snapping, light chasing, some aggression)
1. First of all rule out adult onset hydrocephalus. 2. Avoid over vaccination especially rabies (seek a 2 to 3
yr) which has been noted by some veterinarians to immediately worsen these disorders. It is theorized that some of these
dogs have a subclinical form of immune mediated meningitis that may be stimulated by vaccination and may be responsive to
steroids. 3. Melatonin may have a role in regulating brain function in compulsive disorders and may be given a trail
course- provided certain cautions are noted such as it's ability to alter blood glucose in diabetic patients and it's ability
to supress fertility.
